A man I knew lost his life defending his home from the Valley Fire. A chimney effect made the fire so hot at his home that the steel rims of his truck partially melted in a puddle, not just collapsed. Nothing was left of him.

There is another solution required for climate change. Modify building materials and codes. I suggested this years ago to the remaining government of Paradise. This will cost somewhat more in some cases, but should be insurable.

Old farm houses in forested areas of California were built of stone because of fire, many with metal roofing. The old missions are made of adobe and stucco. These days, construction from water jet cut cinderblocks (3' x 6' by 4') could be carved into beautiful and energy efficient, as well as fireproof custom homes. In Texas, old motels were build entirely of cinderblock with metal roofs. With some architectural design, simple cinderblock can be attractive.
